If you’re lucky enough to find yourself basking in the sun, surf, and beautiful people that surround Hawaii’s North Shore, you must make your way to Hale’iwa Bowls for the ultimate chilled out smoothie bowl experience. Nestled off the sandy edge of Kamehameha Highway, the little grass shack in the historic town of Hale’iwa is famous for giving the locals all their fruit and coffee fixes. From their custom acai bowls and smoothies, juices, smoothies & cold-brew coffee, Hale’iwa Bowls is one of those places you can’t go wrong for a fresh, delicious meal or a post-surf snack any time of day.
When local favorite Mahina Garcia was helping us plan the perfect Hawaiian morning together, this spot was at the top of her list of our ‘must-do’s.
“Hale’iwa Bowls is the OG original gangster bowls, they were the first to truly establish themselves on the North Shore. I was actually one of Hale’iwa Bowls first employees, therefore, they will always be dear to my heart,” she says.
Mahina has even coined her own off-menu secret bowl, and justifies her weekly double-fisting habit with the knowing that she’s supporting her local farmers in the area with every bite. She also loves that all the bowls are non-dairy, with no added sugars. “It’s the best fresh and healthy option to fuel our bodies that the small surf town of Hale’iwa has to offer,” she says.
My favorite thing to do is add peanut butter to my bowl…once you add peanut butter to your bowl you’ll never be able to eat it peanut butter less again! — Mahina Garcia
Scroll on for how you can bring a little bit of the North Shore into your own home via blends that both your mouth and your body will thank you for: the Blue Majik Bowl and Mahina’s “secret” custom bowl. These tasty treats are filled with fruit, granola, coconut, bee pollen, and blue majik spirulina, which is packed with tons of nutrients and has been shown to support brain function, healthy joints, flexibility, and increase energy.
Although nothing beats the real Hale’iwa Bowl experience, these bowls are a healthy and delicious way to take us right back to island time, where the livings easy. Mahalo!
